Short Bio:

Benita Ibrahim is a author, consultant, speaker, leadership educator, mentor and small business owner for over twenty-three years. She believes relationships are our greatest currency, truly loving what you do leads to your purpose and out serving others in your community leads to great leadership and community building!

Joshua Ibrahim loves participating in outdoor activities with his Boy Scout troops, plays soccer, karate, and enjoys singing, dancing and playing the drums in his high school band. He serves on the Mayor’s Youth Commission and his favorite subject is math. He loves to cook and makes an awesome Hamburger Helper! On the weekend you can find him serving at church, on the soccer field playing or refereeing youth soccer games or spending time with his family and cousins.

THE STORY BEHIND THE BOOKS

WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO WRITE THE BOOK?

One day we were out at a restaurant and observed a large extended family. We both noticed that everyone from the grandparent down to the toddler had a DEVICE! Although we rely on technology and it’s the wave of the future, we wanted to create something that would inspire young reader’s to rediscover and fall in love again with reading tangible books and using their imagination to draw and create wondrous adventures!

I believe there is something so magical about touching and holding a book in real time. My mom passed away a few years ago and there are times it seems like it was just yesterday; But when I hold a book that she loved to read, and I can see the notations she wrote in her own handwriting and what she was thinking at that moment… there’s nothing more powerful and priceless than that! We wanted others to experience that same feeling of wonderment and creativity so we created “Penelope Pencil.”

WHAT ABOUT THE GENRE APPEALS TO YOU?

The book was written with early childhood development in mind ages 0-5 years. Study’s show the importance of early childhood development of young children has a direct and profound effect on their overall development and the adults they become because of it. Being expressive creatively maybe the only way a child can express their emotions and share what that they are feeling. Reading and handwriting plays a pivotal role academically in their success.

Reader’s are thinkers, thinkers are innovators, and innovators become leaders!

WHAT INSPIRED THE TITLE?

I have always loved the name Penelope and it just seems right to incorporate Pencil on the end to spark creativity.

WHAT OTHER BOOK PROJECTS ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON?

We are currently working on our next Penelope Pencil book in the series and I am finishing a training book for daycare professionals and start ups entitled, “ The Fragrance of Professionalism, with the aroma of servant hood” that I’m very excited about!
